Corrections
Updated
This page logs every correction and substantive revision made to an entry on From the Surviving Record. The same change is also recorded at the foot of the entry itself, under Corrections, on the same day.
The log
As of November 1, 2026, no corrections have been logged.
New entries are added at the top of this section, newest first.
What counts
A correction or substantive revision is any change to a fact, date, figure, quotation, source or conclusion. A change that affects how firmly something is stated counts too, for instance when a point marked as a fix turns out to rest on a single source and has to be rewritten as an attribution. Fixes to spelling, punctuation or formatting, and repairs to a broken link that leave the meaning unchanged, are made without a log line.
How a change is made
A corrected claim is changed everywhere it appears on the site, not only in the paragraph where the error was found. That includes the short answer at the top of the entry, the registry card, tables and their CSV downloads, the page description, any FAQ answer and any other entry that repeats the claim.
The entry's revision date moves to the day of the change, and the Cite this page block shows the new date. The log here and the note at the foot of the entry are written on the same day. Entries are not edited silently.
How each log line reads
Each line in the log gives the date in year-month-day form, links to the entry that changed, and says in a sentence what changed, what the earlier text got wrong and which source the correction rests on. At the foot of the entry, the same change appears as Correction (YYYY-MM-DD): … followed by the same three points.
Reporting an error
Send it to contact@fromthesurvivingrecord.com. The contact page lists what makes a report easy to check, and the evidence levels page explains how sources are weighed.
