Updated

From the Surviving Record has no advertising, no accounts, no comments, no newsletter and no forms. It uses two analytics services, described below, keeps your consent choice in your browser, and receives email at one address. This page sets out each of them.

Google Analytics

The site uses Google Analytics 4 to count visits and to see which entries are read. When it runs, Google Analytics sets its own cookies in your browser and collects information such as the pages viewed, the page a visit came from, the type of device and browser, and general location. It also records some actions on a page, such as scrolling, clicks on links that lead off the site, and file downloads.

The Google Analytics property for this site is set to keep event data for 14 months. Google signals is turned off, and the account's data-sharing settings with Google are turned off.

Google explains how it uses information from sites that use its services here: https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

When it loads

For visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, and in a few associated territories, Google Analytics does not load at all until you choose Accept in the consent box. Before that choice nothing is sent to Google and no Google Analytics cookie is set. If you choose Reject, it never loads.

To decide whether to ask, the page reads the country code that Cloudflare's network attaches to your request. If no country can be read, the page treats you as needing to consent and shows the box.

If you choose Accept, Google Analytics loads with advertising storage, advertising user data and advertising personalization all set to denied.

For visitors elsewhere, Google Analytics loads when the page opens.

Changing your choice

Wherever you are, the Cookie settings link at the foot of every page reopens the consent box. Choosing Reject there turns Google Analytics off: if it was running, the page reloads without it, and it stays off on later visits from the same browser.

Cloudflare Web Analytics

The site is served through Cloudflare, and Cloudflare Web Analytics runs for every visitor in every region. The consent box does not control it.

It uses no cookies and no local storage, and Cloudflare states that it does not fingerprint visitors. A small script from static.cloudflareinsights.com reports page views and how quickly pages load to this site's own address. A content blocker that blocks static.cloudflareinsights.com stops it.

Cloudflare's privacy policy is here: https://www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/.

Stored in your browser

Your consent choice is kept in this browser's local storage under the key stats-pref-3c47, with the value granted or denied. It stays until you clear this site's data in your browser.

If you use the light and dark switch, that choice is kept in the same place under the key chartroom-lamp, with the value light or dark. It is written only when you press the switch.

The search box looks through a list of entries loaded from this site. The search runs in your browser, and what you type is not sent anywhere.

Fonts, images and data files are served from this site. No fonts are loaded from other services, and there are no social media embeds.

Email

Mail sent to contact@fromthesurvivingrecord.com is forwarded through Cloudflare's email routing. Your address and message are used only to handle what you sent, such as an error report or a lead to a document. They are not added to any mailing list.

Advertising

There is no advertising on this site. If that changes, this page will name the advertising provider and explain its cookies and how to opt out.
